WHOMP WHOMP!

How are y’all doing tonight? Hope things are swell for ya! As for me it’s alright. I spent $10 trying to dry my single load of laundry across 4 different dryers between two different on-site laundry rooms at my apartment last night. That was fun! Also started seeing ants coming into my apartment again. Went and placed some ant poison I got back at the tail end of 2024 again so hopefully it’ll sort itself out soon. This time they aren’t coming in from the kitchen and eating Gene and Aisha’s cat food but instead by the window on the opposite end of the apartment. So could be worse!

Bought this game called Astalon: Tears of the Earth, a NES-ass looking metroidvania game that I am enjoying very much. It’s not the most difficult game in the world, which honestly I prefer as these days I don’t got much time or willpower to start a game that’s gonna be a slog to play. It controls great, music is tight, and though there isn’t that much of a story I like what bits there is.

What really got me to notice the game was the fact it has character artwork done by the creator of Dragon Half. In fact it was the creator’s newer game that’s currently for preorder called Lovish that led me to Astalon. I was looking at the Nintendo eshop and saw Lovish and looked at the screenshots when I noticed what appeared to be Mink in a little cinematic moment. I was all “man, that basically looks like Mink!” thinking it was a reference. But no! It’s straight up Mink! Afterwhich I saw Astalon that had the artwork done by Ryūsuke Mita, tried the demo which was a hour-long demo only dungeon that gives a taste of a bunch of the different enemy types and upgrades you’ll get and was sold. Also it was on sale for like $7-8 at the time. Don’t think it’s on sale anymore.

I talked with Cooper about it and he told me I need to try Silksong, but considering I didn’t like Hollow Knight back when I played it in 2018 I’m unsure. Debating whether to try Hollow Knight again before buying Silksong or just go and grab Silksong instead. I just don’t want to pay $20 for a game that I didn’t like the predecessor. Though I am aware that people who weren’t all that into Hollow Knight have gone on to say Silksong is way better.

In other news Tojima Wants To Be Kamen Rider continues to be a fun show. And I’m almost done with my Bakuman reread. Reading chapters I haven’t read since it was still coming out weekly. These last few arcs I’m remembering not enjoying all that much, and as I reread it I’m going “yeah, they’re not bad but it isn’t as good as the earlier chapters.” Also reading it via the Shonen Jump app despite the fact I own the entire series physically.

We got a winter storm coming this weekend to Texas. From the sound of things up north has already been fucked with insane cold-ass temperatures so I guess it’s our turn now. Thankfully I got all the comic work needed for this week finished and I’m stocked up on supplies in case the power goes out so I’ll be bunkering down this weekend and chill. Or, well, keep warm and do as little as possible.

See y’all next week!

So is Kevin ever gonna get his backpack back from strip #130? It’s really the only reason I’ve kept up with this series since that strip

I’ve seen some gameplay of Hollow knight and of Silksong and skipped through both to see if there’s anything particularly interesting to me. It was okay, I guess, endless platforming and murdering enemies is just not the kind of game I like playing and especially not watching. From what I’ve seen, they look quite similar, with Silk song being generally an upgrade to many aspects, but no huge differences. So if you didn’t like Hollow knight, I would guess that you also wouldn’t like Silk song.

Oh dear… Now that will be interesting. (insert grinch smirk here)

Well, good of Kev to notice he’s been far too open when he’s hiding a secret.

And with that, I am all caught up! All in about a week! What a great project, genuinely inspiring to see it still going.

Makes me wonder how it’s gonna end. I feel like while you can definitely tell more stories with these characters, if Doris comes out properly as trans (as the last chapter began to imply) and reveals the body suit to Elaine, that could be a natural crescendo to everything in the comic so far. All that would come after is the aftermath, then maybe some sort of epilogue about the date of the bodysuit project and the status of Elaine and Doris’s relationship. Depending on how happy or tragic Patricia wants to make the ending, it could very well be super cute and romantic, or maybe melancholic if there becomes a rift as a result of moving forward.

At this point I am writing fanfic, I’ll leave the story proper to Mehgazone. Keep up the great work!
