Happy Slayers Wednesday!

The other day I showed Cooper the storyboards for the next few weeks of Kat. After pointing out a bunch of things that needed changing he said “I’m pointing out a bunch of details but honestly you’re getting quite good at storyboarding action.”

Felt good getting complimented! Especially considering how often he has to point out issues with the art in general, such as him redrawing an elbow and going “I feel like I’ve drawn this elbow for you dozens of times over the past decade.” Which, yeah, he has… And he’ll probably have to do it again in the near future.

Anywho I saw Tony last friday, which is about the start of Anthony Bourdain becoming a chef. I liked it! I never watched much of Anthony Bourdain’s stuff in general, just glimpses from when my dad watched him, but I enjoyed the movie. Didn’t enjoy watching him jamming the knife into his hand while trying to shuck an oyster, especially because they telegraphed that it was going to happen. Not the biggest fan of seeing realistic pain depicted these days. Person getting blown up? Sure, that’s fine. Accidentally cutting yourself? Too ouchie for me. Kinda the same in regards to watching sitcoms where the joke is someone embarrassing themselves as I wind up getting second-hand embarrassment from it.

But yeah, Tony was a good drama.

ANIME:

Now that I finished Hiwou War Chronicles I started rewatching Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken! I really enjoyed it back when it came out and hadn’t revisited until the other night when I wanted to watch something in English while I munched on popcorn. It continues to be a fun show that really gets my “HELL YEAH MAKING SHIT IS AWESOME!” emotions kickin’. This go around I’m watching it dubbed and I’m happy to say the dub is good! The three protagonists’ VA’s knock it out of the park, especially Olivia Swasey’s deadpan line reads as Kanamori. I imagine it’s gotta be difficult to do such a monotone voice that actually sounds good and like a person instead of just, ya know, a monotone line read. Glad I picked up the bluray!

That’s it for this week! See yaaaaa!!!

I never thought Miranda would ever be topped as my least favourite character, but this bitch has done it.

    1. Mithril Mercenary says:

Okay, yeah, seriously. I’ve been silent on this but she’s REALLY pushing it way too far!

  2. SageM says:

You know Anthony Bourdain actually created a comic book/graphic novel that’s getting an animated release? Its called “Get Jiro” and it premieres on Toonami in October.

I think she had way too much to drink

  4. Headlock1_0 says:

Can we put Madison back on the shelf now? (rhetorical question)

  5. Ilikepie says:

I cannot tell if you are trying to depict Madison as 90s crazy anime girl, a booze driven low-functioning sociopath, or someone devoid of emotional intelligence.

In the span of an hour she has done enough things to finish several times over a friendship. If Owen had thrown three darts around Madison’s head, grabbed her shirt, punched her across the room, and snatched her phone because he disapproved of how she handled a relationship, would the scene still read as harmless slapstick? No. Not at all.

I’m depicting her as a gremlin.

      1. Ilikepie says:

Ah, that explains much. Shouldn’t feed/give booze after midnight.

  6. Miss Solana says:

Ok, Mads has officially pushed this too far. I was on board with the assumption we’d be waiting until tomorrow at the earliest to contact Doris. But right now? That’s way too quick. Though she is drunk so there’s that.

  7. Izzzzzzy says:

Feels weird scrolling to the comments and finding out people *don’t* like Madison. She’s clearly such a bombastic funny gremlin girlie that seems second nature to this comic, given your inspirations. Sometimes you need a larger than life weirdgirl to ease the tension off of the grounded relationship drama and the plot.
