Yep. Angela is going to make your life a living hell, because you never told Elaine about the skinsuit, and about how you really feel towards her. Dumb ass.
No…… but Kevin isn’t very bright, and he doesn’t pick-up on social cues from people around him (even as Doris). I believe he really cares for (loves) Elaine, but hasn’t been able to figure it out, in his simple mind. It’ll probably take a major event happening, before he realizes it.
I’m just going to say it, I feel really sad for Doris, like legitimately
In general, Doris deals with a lot of issues, its very clear they have some gender identity issues and they just in general have issues interacting with the world around them and understanding it their best friend has moved away, Elaine also appeared to be their only friend and support system, they no longer have that and now its replaced by Miranda, a girl that views them as only a test subject and regularly make action out of their convenience typically not considering Doris well being in the equation, and Angela, a girl who despises them, to a degree I think is not at all justified
I mean, their best friend kissed them, declared their love to him and they probably don’t know how to process that healthily, as the two people who he could confide in either probably don’t care, or actively view it as an excuse to berate them, which is something they don’t need right now I know this is a more fun and comedic series and I understand Doris is a flawed person, but i feel like Doris is realistically headed to a dark place now and probably ha no idea how to deal with it, a bad recipe for an inevitable mental breakdown
My biggest hope is all placed on Owen. he is a genuinely nice guy who is the closest thing Doris has to an actual friend and person who cares about them, I hope he can be a good support and hopefully call out Angela and Miranda on their bullshit, because I know that moment will be very satisfying but something like that will probably take more then one chapter to each, i do hope we get that thou TLDR, feel bad for Doris, hope they get better, Owens the best and Angela/Miranda can get dunked on
I think the thing that’s been getting to me about this situation is that Peter has done a really good job at showing the bodysuit is Doris’ way of figuring out their personal and gender identity and feelings. At the same time, the comic is fun and wants to make light of things so we get Angela being comically violent in trying to make Doris reveal the bodysuit to Elaine. While that’s great in a world where nothing is super serious, in the more complex world of this story and its conceit, Angela is basically forcing Doris to out themselves while they still haven’t figured out their identity.
It was fine the first few times because Angela does have a point — Doris has met with Elaine while wearing the bodysuit and has spent months not saying anything which is not great — but it’s not like they’ve done anything egregiously wrong beyond hiding an aspect of their identity while they’re figuring it out. Obviously the comparison to real life breaks down a bit where, say, a trans person wouldn’t likely be able to fabricate a new identity in front of their best friend and start a new friendship or whatever, but I don’t think Doris should necessarily be expected to tell Elaine just because she’s their best friend. It’s a grey area. That’s all to say that I have been waiting for Doris or someone to say SOMETHING to Angela. Maybe not Doris because Angela has done a pretty good job making them think they’re squarely in the wrong here, but Angela has continued with this perspective without any other characters saying anything and I think that has to change.
Up until this point Angela hasn’t chided Doris for hiding the bodysuit from Elaine in front of any other characters. It doesn’t look like Miranda is going to challenge her after those last two panels, which does disappoint me a bit. Miranda had that conversation with Owen on the car ride after he didn’t confront Doris and this could have been a good time to show some character growth or something but it seems like she cares about Doris even less than in previous chapters. I really thought Miranda and Doris might start to become friends after the start of this chapter, but I guess not — or at least not yet.
I agree with everything you’re saying about Doris being potentially headed for a bad place. They’ve basically been told off over and over and gone through a bunch of stressful situations. Sure, this is a funny comic where that stuff happens and it’s no big deal, but it’s also one with a realized world and characters. At a certain point it feels like everyone who knows about the bodysuit except Owen either hates Doris or dehumanizes them.
I really hope this is all setup for that changing in the future.
OK, Kevin/Doris definitely is primarily experiment subject for Miranda and he/she is interrupting Angela want to do with Elaine too.
Although Owen seem like a nice guy and he probably has mex emotion about Doris and was even seeing her as a real live person and was even seeing her as a potentially a girlfriend even and was starting to invest himself into her emotionally too. We pretty much know who or what both Miranda and Angela thing of Kevin/Doris and who he is. But, we still aren’t sure of Owen and how he feel about this matter yet. We know that he is probably disappointed that it was just Kevin in a bodysuit instead of it being a real live girl that he was getting interested in, which is want he wanted her to be. Be even after he found out that it was Kevin in the bodysuit who is actually what Doris is,
Owen response to Miranda after she informed him of the situation was with Doris, his was to respond that Doris will tell me when she ready to tell me. In his head he knows Doris is just a another guy, but, in his heart is he still seeing Doris a girl?
Oh yes, forgot Doris didn’t know (up until now apparently) Angela being involved in this project too.
Let’s see how their relationship (between Miranda, Angela and Doris) will change or maybe improve from just being a test subject. Nevertheless, this would make Owen really some kind of oasis of mind peace, since he was (the only one) totally cool about this whole affair.
This is where looks the two of them in the eyes and says “I’m sorry I didn’t tell Elaine about the bodysuit.” I’m sure Miranda would be delighted to hear that she almost had to get an entirely new person who isn’t even in town anymore involved, if not have her life’s work shut down entirely over a petty squabble.
First test: How much of a beating can the subject in the bodysuit take?
Btw. I like Angela very much as she is! She is a realy tough friend who will never leave you behind. Kevin still has to earn her friendship, and that’ll be hard, but I’m sure they’ll get along great!
Oh dear lord…
Hot
And Doris’s life for the next six months is going to be hell, instead of enjoyment of being a girl nearly full time.
Lets just hope Doris doesn’t develop PTSD after half a year is up.
Hehehehehehehehehheheheheheheehehehehehhehehehe
Angela cracking her knuckles as she anticipates cracking the whip on Doris. Kiddo, looks like your fate is well and truly sealed.
Yep. Angela is going to make your life a living hell, because you never told Elaine about the skinsuit, and about how you really feel towards her. Dumb ass.
Wait, has it been confirmed he likes her like that?
No…… but Kevin isn’t very bright, and he doesn’t pick-up on social cues from people around him (even as Doris). I believe he really cares for (loves) Elaine, but hasn’t been able to figure it out, in his simple mind. It’ll probably take a major event happening, before he realizes it.
Smol Doris on bottom left panel

Give Angela a male suit.

We’re running out of ‘dun dun duunnnnn’s’ over here.

Oh Sh1$
I dont like Angela idk… i just dont like her….
Angela has very little to no likeable traits in her personality.
I don’t blame you.
First test: How much of a beating can the subject in the bodysuit take?

oh deary me
Plenty of chances for murder here
Wait, why does Angela get to be Doris’s superior?
