I know what The Shining is because I’ve actually seen it, I just didn’t know what the reference was to as it’s been quite some time.
Also, I find it quite reasonable that Kevin doesn’t know what The Shining is. He’s mainly an anime nerd/fanboy so that’s probably his main source of media intake, it wouldn’t surprise me that much that he doesn’t know about some of the older movies unless they relate to his preferred style. Having said that, he’s missing out on an entire WORLD of media by sticking largely to anime alone. There’s not enough time in all of reality for Miranda to show him everything that he’s missing out on, but The Shining is a good starting point.
