Why "way older"? That game came out in 1996, she’s probably 12 in that picture and in present day already a full scientist who has made multiple groundbreaking discoveries. If she played the game e.g. shortly before the next generation came out, she could be 30 in late 2017 (when this comic started, there haven’t been that many in-story days yet), which seems reasonable to me by how she looks. Did Doris expect her to be 25? I’m 25 and not at all close to that amount of job backstory.
Alternatively, the comic could take place much later than 2017, but except for the magic technology at the beginning, which is pretty likely just handwaving to make the story work, it seems to be somewhat current times.
Think about it. She’s young enough that the body suit makes them look like twins… but Doris doesn’t seem older than Elaine. They’re probly close to the same age.
that sucks that she was not able to experience the wonders of other pokemon games
Miranda looks like a younger version of Gwen Stacey as child
Insert arc of Kevin attempting to get Miranda to play video games with him
First thing I thought of before I had even finished reading.
Oof
"Have you ever hunted them ‘in the wild,’ Miranda? There’s an app for that now–and it’s great exercise, too!"
Pokemon: The gateway drug. 😀
Aw, little Miranda is adorable!

So now we know how Miranda looked like as a child..
Even though I didn’t really get into pokemon until gen 3, Kevin is making me feel old -_-

Miranda is implied to be in her early twenties, actually! She must just be a very motivated super-genius or something.

It’s not too late.
