Salutations! Originally I didn’t think I’d get the pinup done today and instead work on it over the weekend, but I wound up taking a nap and woke up at 11pm refreshed to an extent and figured I’d go ahead and whip something up!
Spent most of the past week working on Galactic Dragoon Reina stuff in preparation of posting the first chapter over the next few weeks to the point that I haven’t started the B23 storyboards yet! Whoops! Shooting to get started on Friday. Idea for Reina originally was 3 insert drawings per week, but after getting done with the one featuring Sylvie and Reina today I figured I’d scale back and just do two. Partly because the original insert drawing I had going for the second one was kicked back by Cooper for having too many problems, and the amount of work to fix it all didn’t seem worth it. So I ultimately trashed it and started over today with what you see!
Speaking of Reina, as you can see I dumped a bunch of Reina stuff in this post (ON PATREON ONLY)! High res and roughs for all to see because, eh, why not? The Crimson Comet has been a nightmare in terms of trying to figure out the design for for the past, uh, several years? If you read the start of chapter 2 of Kat you can see one version of it that Cooper said looked too much like a fighter jet, but since I was on a time crunch for Kat and it wasn’t THAT important to the plot I went “fuck it” and went with that design.
Obviously can’t do that for the ACTUAL Reina story, can I?
The story since its inception was spaceships wielding giant swords, heavily inspired by Outlaw Star’s grappler ships. But, uh, coming up with spaceships is hard! And over the years as I worked on it new ideas would come and go. Originally it was just future space, then became far future fantasy space after multiple galactic apocalypses. Then after back and forth with Cooper the idea of the spaceships having a dragon aesthetic seemed cool and give it a distinct flair. And now here I am, having created a mech instead of a spaceship. Not quite spaceships with swords, is it? Even so I think it’s still a lot of fun. But because of it there’s not distinct differences between regular spaceships and the ones that wield weapons and can fly about in space all willy nilly while typical spaceships are incredibly slow when it comes to turning around and stuff, making them unfit for close combat.
I also dumped some design work with The Sylvie Gang, multiple variations of the Crimson Comet, and some design work for Sylvie that I did months ago (bonus 16-year-old Kat’s mom included)! Hopefully this can give a bit of insight of the pain and agony that is me having to come up with designs and not just bullshitting designs as I typically do.
For those who haven’t read Galactic Dragoon Reina yet I hope you give it a looksie starting this weekend!
That’s it for now! See y’all next week!
